Fort Eben-Emael is unique

On 10 May 1940, German Fallschirmjäger launched the world’s first glider-borne assault at Fort Eben-Emael - an unprecedented special operation that marked the beginning of World War II in Belgium.

Explore the underground barracks, the museum featuring an original glider, the infirmary, five kilometers of tunnels, the command post buried deep within the fort, as well as bunkers and artillery cupolas.

If you wish to explore the fort on your own, no advance booking is required.

Our individual guided tours give you access to areas of the fort that are otherwise off-limits, offering a much richer experience. For these tours, it is recommended to book online in advance, as daily availability is limited. When you book online, your reservation is confirmed immediately, and payment is collected at the ticket office upon arrival.

For all other group visits and school visits, online booking is always required. Your reservation request will be reviewed by our team, and you will receive a confirmation email, which must be accepted to finalise your booking.

The underground barracks are heated for your comfort.

The corridor system and bunkers maintain a constant temperature of 11 °C. We recommend wearing a sweater and closed shoes.

Accessibility
Accessibility

The underground barracks and the museum are wheelchair accessible. A lift provides access to the tunnel system on the middle floor. Part of this tunnel system is accessible to wheelchair users, though assistance may be required.

The bunkers, casemates, and cupolas are not wheelchair accessible.

Due to the many stairs, visits to a bunker, casemate, or cupola are not recommended for visitors with limited mobility or heart conditions.

A combination ticket includes a guided tour in a group of around 20 visitors. Tours start on fixed days and times.
